Photoshop for Photographers - intermediate level - 4 1/2 days

This class starts with the basic principles of studio retouching - what it' s for and how to do it right. Then spend a day learning how to control the tools in Photoshop so you get what you want every time. Learn the techniques Jane developed for perfect skin blending, retouching mature faces plus two of Jane's famous eye enhancement processes - make perfect eyelashes, too!

From there, Jane will show you the fastest and best ways to open eyes, swap heads, add or remove people from pictures, drop in a new background or sky, make custom templates and borders, turn color photographs to black and white or browntone, create a light tint "oil", make actions, apply type and use special effects for practical as well as creative applications. Jane dedicates this class to product development of fine art portrait products for photography studios. Her background in fines arts really shines as students learn how to make photo paintings - watercolors, oils and pastels - using classical fine art techniques, from composition to the use of contrast, color, detail, brush techniques, shape sculpting and blending. You will experiment with photo real and impressionistic styles of painting and learn fine art brush techniques PLUS learn "Jane's famous cheater techniques" for creating painterly looking images with speed and maximum productivity. Jane will also share with you her favorite brushes for photo painting and show you how to make your own brush libraries, captured brushes and image hose nozzles. You will use software, but you will learn fine art.

Portrait painters are welcome in this class as are landscape artists, nature photographers and students of still life painting - it's YOUR class to take in whatever direction you want to go!

Stretch your creative boundaries in this class fine art drawing and painting workshop, facilitated by Jane in the class form she used when she taught traditional drawing and painting classes at Florida Southern College - before computers! You can bring your own images to work from, use any of Jane's sample files, capture images while at the school or intuitively create from an empty canvas. Lessons on composition, lighting, contrast, color, detail, line, perspective, subject matter and gesture will be used to develop your own style of painting and bring your skills as an artist to a new and exciting level.

Beyond Photography / Fine Art For Photographers

This is totally creative - totally an exploration of yourself as an artist, guided by Jane whose background in fine art (she started formal art education at the age of 7) has led her through years of creative enterprises in professional portrait photography as well as having taught college level classes in both classical drawing and painting. You will use both Photoshop and Painter as you wish and you are encouraged to bring your own images to turn into beautiful pieces of fine art (Jane will also bring many images from you to choose from). Learn how to select an appropriate image for a painting, how to crop it for the best composition, how to create and use color sets, set up your own preferred workspace and brush categories and develop your own ways of moving paint and creating emotion in your work.

Outline:

    Image Selection - four images to use during the week
    Composition
    Color Creation for the paintings
    Prep in Photoshop
  • Day Two: Paint - Jane will demo watercolors - paint as you like
